Fort Mose Historic State Park guide Terri Newmans announced to local Historic City News reporters that the park will host an invasive exotic plant removal workday on Saturday, April 9, 2011, in honor of National Volunteer Week.
Volunteers should bring gloves, wear long pants, comfortable shoes and be prepared to get dirty as they work with an AmeriCorps member on invasive exotic plant removal throughout the park.
“Water, trash bags, and bug spray will be provided,” Newmans told Historic City News. “Pre-registration is requested but not required.”
This event will take place in the park from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011.
For more details, or to register, call Newmans at (904) 823-2232. To register online visit http://www.eco-volunteerusa.org/registration
Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Mose Historic State Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Fort Mose tells the story of Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose — the first legally sanctioned, free African settlement in what is now the United States.
