Lindsey Phillips invites local Historic City News readers to attend the annual “Holiday Open House” at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St Augustine on Saturday December 10th.
The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. by firing its three-cannon battery on the gun deck to signal the start of the annual St. Augustine Regatta of Lights, a parade of private and commercial vessels covered in lights to celebrate the season.
Then, the fort gateway will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. with another three-gun firing.
“We hope the community and visitors to the city will join us for this annual evening event,” Phillips told reporters.
The Holiday Open House presents a rare occasion to experience the Castillo at night and for viewing the city illuminated during the Nights of Lights.
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument volunteers and staff will be dressed in a variety of uniforms from the 17th Century through World War II helping to bring the structure’s vibrant history to life for the evening.
At 8:45 p.m. the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument’s guns will fire for the last time during the evening, signaling the end of the event.
Entrance to the fort will be free to the public from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
