Betty Griffin House Community Awareness Coordinator, Kim Collins, informed local Historic City News reporters that Lion’s Den Karate will offer a womens’ self-defense class, free to the first 10 women that call and sign up.
On Friday, June 24, 2011 from 7:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. you can learn the moves that could save your life. Today, self-defense is more important than ever.

Betty Griffin House and Lion’s Den Karate are collaborating to promote this womens’ personal safety initiative. Instructors at Lion’s Den Karate will help the participants learn empty handed self-defense skills.
Instructor Jose L. Leno is a 22-year veteran of the Martial Arts who has studied under world renowned masters to learn Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan Karate, Hung Gar Kung Fu, Yang style Tai Chi Chuan and Tang Soo Do. He offers classes in Spanish and American Sign Language.
Instructor Curtis A. Romeo studied the style of Tang Soo Do since the age of 13. He holds the rank of third degree and has 12 + years of teaching experience.
“Just think about the world we live in today,” Collins told Historic City News. “No one is immune to violence. Doesn’t it make sense to know how to be aware and also how to be prepared?”
