I’ve been working with our tech guys since the beginning of the year, and, after a successful soft-preview on the 15th, I am pleased to rollout the Historic City News mobile app for our readers who want to keep in touch on-the-road.
As more and more of our thousands of daily subscribers move to wireless mobile phones that support 3G and 4G data communications, Historic City News is making it easier to access news, editorials and discussion for those devices.
The currently enabled mobile wireless devices include Android, CUPCAKE, bada, blackberry 9800, blackberry9500, blackberry9520, blackberry9530, blackberry9550, dream, iPhone, iPod, incognito, s8000, webOS and webmate.
This upgrade to our Internet delivery system adds powerful, easy-to-use features to the historiccity.com website for our mobile and tablet theme readers. Our content is re-formatted on the fly for mobile and iPad visitors. Things like images are re-scaled, and re-positioned based on size.
The BEST part of the upgrade is that it’s FREE and installs on your mobile wireless devices AUTOMATICALLY. It works by detecting the supported devices, like iPhones, iPads, Android or Blackberry; then serves its mobile Internet optimized theme — instead of our regular desktop theme. Visitors can always switch back to our desktop theme, if they choose.
Our new software doesn’t glue together RSS feeds, or use a proxy server to modify our site’s look. We have created a new, full-fledged mobile device theme — completely separate from our desktop theme. This approach promises to deliver our content over wireless devices without sacrificing download speeds.
Let us know about your experiences with historiccity.com the next time you visit us using your wireless mobile device.
