Steve Wright may not take on a bucking bronco, but Historic City News has learned that his over-fifteen years experience, seven of which have been earned at the City of St. Augustine, has placed him second, statewide, in a front end loader and overall in the recent competition of the Florida Sunshine Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America.
Placing second among 56 drivers statewide qualifies Wright, who was named the City of St. Augustine’s 2009 Employee of the Year, to compete in the International Road-E-O. Wright will represent the City when he travels to Dublin, GA in early September.
The Road-E-O includes classroom testing and equipment handling skills. One example: a “pre-trip inspection” in which the competitor has to locate five errors with the vehicle prior to its being used to perform the work.
Public Works open house Saturday:
Check out the equipment Steve Wright and his co-workers handle every day at next Saturday’s open house to celebrate Public Works Week.
Look for Steve, a St. Augustine native, and his wife Cindi along with their three children. Everyone will be enjoying the free hot dogs, drinks, games, and educational displays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the city’s Public Works facility located at 254 W. King Street.
