Hydrant flushing affects Davis Shores

Posted on 07/18/201107/20/2011 By Historic City News

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Historic City News readers who live and work in Davis Shores may notice some temporary discoloration of their water as the St. Augustine Fire Department conducts flow and hydrant inspections.

July 19th and 20th firefighters will be flushing fire hydrants in the area of north Davis Shores from Oglethorpe to Inlet Drive including St. Augustine Boulevard.

Between 1:00 p.m. and about 3:30 p.m., the City will test 15 remaining hydrants remaining.

The testing process may cause a temporary discoloration of the water supply therefore check the color of the water prior to washing clothes or drinking.

The water is not harmful to drink and is due to water pressure moving through the water lines.

Although flushing of the lines and hydrant inspection is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, July 20th, some work may need to be continued Thursday.

Flow testing is needed to plan firefighting operations and to ensure water flow in the event of a fire and to also maintain the stabilization of homeowner’s insurance rates within the City.
