Historic City News received a report from Lieutenant Bill Leeper this afternoon confirming details on a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred near the intersection of East Main Street and Church Street; in front of the Kangaroo Station in Hastings.
At about 4:15 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a 1992 Freightliner log truck with an empty trailer struck and killed a 47 year-old Hispanic man who was crossing the busy highway.
Family notification is not complete so the victim’s name was withheld from the report.
The tractor-trailer was driven by 48 year-old Kenneth Eubanks who resides in Palatka.
“The truck was eastbound on SR-207; driving in the left lane,” Leeper told Historic City News. “The pedestrian was walking northbound and entered the eastbound lane of traffic, crossing in front of the truck.”
The front of the truck struck the pedestrian and he died at the scene.
Eubanks suffered no injuries in the collision. There were no charges reported filed nor was alcohol reported as a factor in the collision. The investigation is continuing.
