Considering the fact that about 3,100 of such reports were received by the Sheriff last year, without sacrificing public safety, the online reporting of simple criminal incidents may save “a significant amount of money” the Sheriff told Historic City News.
Online Reporting will allow citizens to file and receive a copy of a report, for insurance purposes or their own records, without having to leave their home or lose time waiting for a law enforcement officer to meet them at the scene.
“This will be a cost saver,” the Sheriff said. “I set my management team to finding more efficient, cost effective ways of handling tasks within our office and we are eager to see how many people will take advantage of this convenient, time saving service.”
The types of incidents that can be reported online are limited to “low-level crimes” where no evidence or suspect exists; thus saving thousands of tax dollars each year.
At the present time you will be able to file online reports for lost property, vandalism, thefts of not more than $300, identity theft, vehicle burglaries and harassing phone calls.
It is important to note that all online reports will be reviewed and approved by a law enforcement supervisor.
“As always, our deputies will continue to respond and meet with any citizen for any reason when they are requested,” Shoar said; emphasizing that the online reporting system is completely voluntary.
