Man sought in Solomon Calhoun pool robbery

Sherriff David B. Shoar informed Historic City News that investigators in St. Augustine are searching for a black man in his mid to late 20’s who is said to have robbed a 17 year-old high school student at the Solomon Calhoun Center pool yesterday evening.

The victim, a girl who was responsible for watching the cashier’s box, was sitting at the front gate with her back toward the west gate of the pool area when she said she was approached by the robber; who was outside of the fence.

A 6′ tall, skinny black man wearing a black t-shirt and grey basketball shorts, with shoulder length dreadlocks or corn-rolls, called to the victim and demanded she give him the small cash bag in the attendant’s box.

The victim told deputies that she saw the robber holding a black and silver handgun, so, she complied by pushing the cash bag, containing about $65, through a hole in the chain-link fence.

The attendant notified a lifeguard at the Solomon Calhoun Center, who called in the robbery report.

The victim said she is certain she will be able to identify the robber if she sees him again.

The robber was said to have run away — heading north on Duval Street. When they arrived, a K-9 officer and handler were not able to track a location for the robber.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Deputies are seeking the man for questioning in connection with first-degree felony robbery and second-degree misdemeanor petit theft charges in this case.
