Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office are investigating several burglaries that occurred in the Marsh Creek subdivision since last Friday morning.
Additionally, Kelshaw said, the St. Augustine Beach Police Department is investigating several burglaries that occurred in Sea Grove and other neighborhoods on Anastasia Island.
“In many cases, the suspects have been entering unlocked vehicles then remove property,” Kelshaw reported. “In some cases, they remove the garage door opener and gain access to the garage or even inside the home.”
Incident reports list bicycles, I-Pads and garage door openers among the property that has been stolen. According to witnesses of the most recent break-ins, the suspects were described as two white males and one black male that were all wearing dark clothing.
Sheriff David B. Shoar is reminding residents to keep windows and doors locked at your home as well as your vehicle at all times. “Remove valuable property and garage door openers from plain sight in your vehicle,” Shoar suggested. “Use lighting around your home and keep bushes and shrubbery trimmed to prevent areas of concealment.”
Most importantly, report any suspicious activity immediately to your local law enforcement agency.
Anyone that observed anything suspicious in the Marsh Creek or other St. Augustine Beach areas over night is being asked to come forward. Kelshaw told Historic City News that detectives believe there may be video surveillance cameras on homes in that area which captured the burglar’s image.
Anyone with information concerning these crimes is asked to contact detective Jerry Montague at the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office by calling (904) 824-8304. You can remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward by calling CrimeStoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477).
