Pizza delivery may have lifted debit card number

St. Johns County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw, informed local Historic City News crime desk reporters that a 20-year old local woman is in custody today; charged with grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Property Crimes Unit Detectives served a search warrant this morning on Rebecca Nicole Brown who lives at 168 Oneida Street following a nearly month long investigation.

The investigation began in March, when a 35 year-old Vermont Heights woman discovered several fraudulent charges on her bank card. They included two wedding bands valued at over $1,100, nearly $200 at two restaurants, over $2,600 at two electronics stores, and over $1,000 in bedroom furniture.

Based on the delivery address for some of the fraudulent charges, Property Crimes Unit Detective, Shannon Andrews, identified Brown as a possible suspect. Brown was recently fired from a pizza delivery company for allegedly stealing money. The victim verified that she ordered pizza for delivery on February 12th from the same business where the suspect was employed — she paid with her bank card.

Based on the evidence obtained, a search warrant was granted and served today and the property that was allegedly gained through fraudulent means was recovered and returned to the rightful owners.

No bond has been established for until after she sees a judge at her first appearance hearing tomorrow morning.
