Progress continues on SR-207 multi-use trail

Historic City News was updated today on the construction of a 3-mile connecting trail being built about a mile south of Vermont Heights; then running to Armstrong Road, following SR-207 in western St. Johns County.

Superior Construction Company Southeast and Ayers Associates began the construction under contract to the Florida Department of Transportation last month.

The multi-use trail is a designated path for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized vehicles.

The 12-foot wide, multi-use asphalt trail, which includes a 130-foot long pedestrian bridge near the St. Johns County Fairgrounds, will cross SR-207 about a half mile north of CR-305.

Project completion is anticipated by spring 2012 at a cost of approximately $1.3 million.

Construction on the multi-use trail will be near residences in some areas, especially as it gets close to Armstrong Road.

Access to driveways will be maintained during construction. Caution is advised near all construction areas.
