The St. Augustine Tea Party has invited Historic City News readers to attend their general meeting on Tuesday, June 28th, 6:30 p.m., at the Village Inn, 900 N. Ponce de Leon Boulevard in St. Augustine.

Jim Purdy, Seventh Judicial Circuit Public Defender (St. Johns, Putnam, Volusia and Flagler Counties), will be speaking on the Constitution and the role of the Public Defender in society.

Prior to his election in 2010, Purdy said that “the most pressing problems in the office of public defender are a lack of leadership and fiscal responsibility. First, the current public defender seldom, if ever, comes to St. Johns County. Second, he does not require his attorneys to recover fees from defendants as required by law, resulting in a substantial loss of revenue to St. Johns County taxpayers.”

Everyone is invited to come and hear, then ask questions of, our Public Defender.

The impetus for the Tea Party movement is excessive government spending and taxation. Our mission is to attract, educate, organize, and mobilize our fellow citizens to secure public policy consistent with our three core values of Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government and Free Markets.
