Historic City News reporters have been following the drama and controversy surrounding the recently passed animal-drawn carriage ordinance including two additional ordinances that could modify it; both of which could become final on Monday night.
The St. Augustine City Commission will hold two public hearings on modifications to the recently passed carriage ordinance, and then take a vote to determine if they will pass on second reading.
One modification to the ordinance would extend the maximum franchise agreement term with the city from five to ten years; and, the other would eliminate a 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. carriage curfew.
A third proposed modification, lifting a prohibition on assigning franchises to others, was rejected — commissioners feared it could open a secondary market for the sale of franchises.
If you are planning to attend — the regular St. Augustine City Commission meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
