San Sebastian River Bridge update
Laurie Sanderson is keeping Historic City News readers in St. Augustine updated on the progress of the San Sebastian River Bridge replacement project for the Florida Department of Transportation.
If things go as scheduled, southbound traffic on US-1 over the San Sebastian River Bridge just north of King Street will be shifted to the east Sunday night.
Inclement weather or other unforeseen delays may affect the construction and the scheduled traffic shift.
One northbound and one southbound lane will be closed on US-1 between King Street and Saragossa Street from 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 2 to 6 a.m. Monday, October 3 to accommodate the shift.
Northbound traffic was also recently shifted. These modifications to the traffic pattern through this area will remain in place for approximately ten months and are necessary for the replacement of the US-1 San Sebastian River Bridge.
This project began in June and should be complete in spring 2013. No temporary bridge will be constructed during this project. The height of the completed bridge will be approximately six feet higher at its highest point than the existing bridge, but the rise to the highest point will be gradual.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the area during and after the shift as commuters adjust to the new traffic pattern.
