Survey to help determine fate of pool

It is clear to Historic City News that St. Johns County is through maintaining the Willie Galimore Center and Pool as well as the adjacent Eddie Vickers Park.

The county has offered the city a settlement to offset the estimated cost of repairs and operating costs through the end of the swimming season and expiration of their contract in September.

Because of the ongoing cost associated with maintaining the facilities, before spending any of those funds, the city, in cooperation with Flagler College, has produced a brief survey that will be distributed to residents with their City water bill in June and the responses will be used to help the City gauge community interest for the facility.

The survey, which will take about five minutes to complete, may be returned by mail with your city water bill payment or delivered to the City of St. Augustine Financial Services Center at 50 Bridge Street.

“The purpose of the survey is to identify public opinion regarding the Willie Galimore Center and Pool at 33 Riberia Street as well as use of the surrounding Eddie Vickers Park,” Historic City News was told. “We want to make informed decisions about how to proceed before making improvements in the area.”

The survey focuses on ways to revitalize the center, pool and park area.
