On Monday, July 18th, Historic City News reporters will be on hand when Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar joins U.S. Senator Bill Nelson and U.S. Representative John Mica at the St. Augustine 450th Commemoration Commission’s inaugural meeting.
Founded by the Spanish explorer Pedro Menéndez de Avilés in 1565, St. Augustine, Florida is the oldest continuously occupied European-established city in the continental United States.
In partnership with the State of Florida and the City of St. Augustine, members of the St. Augustine Commemoration Commission have been tasked with planning and developing programs and activities appropriate to mark the 450th anniversary of the city’s founding in 2015.
