Community Traffic Safety Program Manager Andrea Atran informed Historic City News that this morning, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the St. Johns Traffic Safety Team will be greeting visitors to the Farmer’s Market, next to the St. Augustine Beach Pier.
In support of the “Click it or Ticket Florida” campaign, team members will be surveying drivers to see if they are wearing their safety belts. Those not wearing their safety belts will receive information reminding them of the importance of always using a seat belt.
“We support our law enforcement agencies that prioritize traffic safety to help make our roads safer,” said Joe Purvis, St. Johns County School Transportation supervisor. “It’s important for police to enforce the safety belt and child restraint laws so more people understand the importance of buckling up.”
Safety belts are the single most effective lifesaving feature in a vehicle.
“We all know that using your safety belt is the single most effective way to protect you, coworkers, friends and loved ones against injury in a traffic crash, but some people still choose to believe that they will never be in a crash,” said Andrea Atran, for the Florida Department of Transportation. “Denial will not save your life or the life of someone you care about.”
