Historic City News has received word that yesterday afternoon; two Georgia men were taken into custody and charged with attempting to pass counterfeit currency.
The investigation began at 4:45 p.m. when deputies responded to a report of an alleged altered $100 bill being passed at a Prime Outlet mall business.
Before deputies arrived, the two men fled the store; but, they were being followed by an employee who gave a detailed description of their Ford Explorer.
Deputy Joey Romer spotted the vehicle traveling southbound just before SR-16. When the Explorer was stopped, the two male and one female occupants gave consent to search the vehicle. Deputies discovered numerous five dollar bills, several counterfeit $100 bills, a printer, alleged counterfeiting equipment and property said to be purchased with fake bills.
The three were questioned separately and the female was released.
In custody at this time are 28 year-old Karl Bruce Hollingsworth who lives in Jonesboro, Georgia; and 30 year-old Dennis O’Keefe James who lives in Riverdale, Georgia. Following a first appearance hearing this morning, bond was set at $10,000 each.
Hollingsworth was charged with possession of counterfeit currency and possession of tools for forgery counterfeiting.
James was charged with passing a forged bill.
The investigation is continuing by the U.S. Secret Service.
