Public Information Officer Debra Johnson reported to Historic City News that yesterday, Flagler County deputies arrested two men who were selling meat from a freezer in the back of their pickup truck.
Palm Coast residents have grown weary and suspicious of unlicensed solicitors peddling merchandise and services door-to-door. In Palm Coast, a business license is required, and, in some cases, other permits. The City of Bunnell and Flagler County also require businesses to pay a tax and register before advertising or conducting business with the public.
The men arrested were 28 year-old Matthew Tribble who resides in Portsmouth, VA, and 26 year-old Jason Staufenberger who resides in Jacksonville.
A City of Palm Coast code enforcement officer reported that they observed the two sales representatives, on foot, working the houses along Putter Drive around 3:43 p.m. Thursday. The two men told deputies that they did not have a permit — and didn’t know they needed one.
After spending the night in jail, both men were released from custody earlier today. Staufenberger was sentenced to time served and Tribble posted $100 bail on the charge.
“We are working with the city to discourage these unlicensed solicitors,” said Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. “Residents have complained about pushy, abusive home alarm solicitors and they have complained about the interruptions in their day.”
In August, four door-to-door home alarm solicitors were arrested on the same charges.
Sheriff Fleming is asking residents to contact the Sheriff’s Office if they are approached by unlicensed solicitors.
