The Scenic and Historic A1A Corridor Management Council and the St. Johns County Growth Management Department reported to local Historic City News reporters that they will hold a public workshop tomorrow, Wednesday, February 23rd.
The workshop, being held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Windswept Acres Park located at 5385 A1A South in St. Augustine, will provide an opportunity for the public to offer comments on designs for signage at Windswept Motel.
In 2007, St. Johns County along with the Scenic and Historic A1A Corridor Management Council was awarded a National Scenic Byway grant for exterior educational interpretative sign improvements at Windswept Motel, which is considered a historical icon.
A total of three educational interpretative signs will be designed and constructed with the grant funds.
The historic 1950 Windswept Motel is located 7.5 miles north of the Flagler-St. Johns County line at Windswept Acres Park and is a reflection of what was an emerging post-World War II commercial traveling business in the United States.
Additional grant monies are being sought to renovate the Windswept Motel into a future educational rest stop on the A1A Scenic Byway’s corridor.
