The St. Johns County Tourist Development Council reported to Historic City News that they will hold two workshops to assist not-for-profit groups in applying for funding support for special events aimed at attracting visitors to St. Johns County.
The available funding, formerly known as CategoryTwo, comes from the four percent tax collected by the county on short-term accommodation rentals. Last year, the TDC awarded over $450,000 in funding support for special events.
Florida Statute Chapter 125.0104 allows for use of these funds – paid by visitors – for special events and cultural programming as a means of marketing the destination to tourists.
The workshop will provide a detailed review of the application guidelines for funding. Groups applying for funds must have at least one representative attend the TDC workshop. Funding applications from groups not represented at the workshop will be disqualified.
There will be two (2) workshops on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
The first workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the County Auditorium located in the St. Johns County Administration Complex at 500 San Sebastian View in St. Augustine.
The second workshop will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, located at 1050 A1A North in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Each workshop will last approximately two (2) hours.
Attendees should reserve seats no later than April 15th by calling Dena Masters at the TDC Office, (904) 209-4420.
