This Sunday, February 12, at 6:30 am, Florida House of Representatives candidate Kim Kendall and her “Team Kendall” informed Historic City News that they will start and finish a 5K race at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
They’ll join Donna Deagan’s 5K and Family Fun Run to honor friend, supporter, and breast cancer survivor, Dawn Distin.
Despite a devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 Inflammatory Breast Cancer, Distin chose NOT to terminate her pregnancy in order to receive treatment. Instead, she made the courageous decision to fight her disease with treatment, while protecting and nurturing her unborn child.
Although many questioned her choice and feared for her life, Distin was convinced that God’s plan for her life included fighting for both.
Distin said, “I had peace that God would see me and my unborn child through all the rigors of chemo, radiation and multiple surgeries.”
This May marks Distin’s 4th anniversary of being cancer-free and her daughter’s 4th birthday!
Team Kendall will celebrate Distin’s courage, commitment and belief that as Dawn said in her own words, “We are living examples of what prayer can accomplish and the strength of significant lives and relationships,” by running the 5K in her honor.
Kim Kendall, Lori Muller, Tiffany Lewers, Jill Flores and Barb Wisnosky make upTeam Kendall and will be participating in the relay representing Dawn’s Story. When asked why they chose Dawn’s story to run for, Kendall responded, “Because her testimony speaks to so many of us — and we strongly believe in the power of faith in God, and in the hope that can overcome even the bleakest of times.”
