38th Annual British Night Watch

Anthea Manny reported to Historic City News that the Committee for the Night Watch and the St Johns County Tourist Development Council will present the 38th Annual British Night Watch and Grande Illumination Celebration on Friday November 30th and Saturday December 1st.

Historic City News readers can visit, learn and participate in a series of free events at Francis Field showcasing the British Period in St Augustine from 1763 to 1783; culminating in a parade through the town on Saturday, December 1st.

“Last year, over 12,000 viewed and participated in the parade traditionally held on the first Saturday of December,” Manny told reporters. “Saturday night’s parade is the only public participation event of its type, outside of Mardi Gras, where you can join in and be part of the show.”

Friday November 30th gates open at 7:00 p.m. for a live concert with Father, Son and Friends; Concert Admission is $5, Children under 12 are free with a paying adult.

Two event stage areas will feature continuously-scheduled activities from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Francis Field on West Castillo Drive. During “Colonial Market Days” you will enjoy a full schedule of 18th century musicians and itinerant travelling performers that will delight all ages.

Attend an 18th century duel, witness the arrest and Court Martial, this vignette follows an unlucky soldier to the end of his days.

Marvel at the skill of a Colonial Circus, and enjoy the balancing act of Signora Bella. Learn about 18th century lifestyles, see British Redcoats present the Trooping of Colors, Blessing of the Flags and drill.

Visit the Native Allies Camp, interact with Townsfolk concerned about their liberty, and immerse yourself in 18th century lifestyles and politics of British St. Augustine.

The historically accurate British Revolutionary War encampment includes soldiers, demonstrators, and period merchants. Participants, re-enactors, musicians and performers from across the United States will become part of the holiday entertainment.
