Avoid a ticket tomorrow

Florida Highway Patrol Captain Keith Gaston reported to Historic City News that troopers would be conducting “Operation Checkered Flag” in St Augustine and St Johns County tomorrow, July 6, starting at 10:00 a.m. and concluding at 6:00 p.m.

This detail will focus on aggressive traffic enforcement along Interstate 95 in St Johns and Flagler counties as well as Duval and Nassau counties.

The objective of Operation Checkered Flag is to reduce crashes, enhance visibility and save lives by employing proactive traffic enforcement with an emphasis on speed, aggressive driving, following too closely, and other discovered criminal activity.

Every citizen using the highways is asked to report impaired drivers as well as aggressive drivers to the nearest law enforcement agency, giving the following information:

1. Location of the vehicle and direction the vehicle was traveling
2. A description of the vehicle: color, make, and model
3. A description of the driver: sex, race, or other identifiers
4. The vehicle license number and state, if it can be obtained safely

Cellular telephone users may dial “* FHP (*347)” to reach the nearest Florida Highway Patrol Communications Center. Callers should continue to dial 911 for emergency medical or fire rescue assistance.
