Jay Bliss, commissioner to the St Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District, informed Historic City News local reporters that a 24-Hour emergency command center, manned by members of the United States Coast Guard in Jacksonville, is available to assist boaters throughout the area of St Augustine and St Johns County.
US Coast Guard Lt Commander Robert Butts told the commissioner that citizens could call 904.564.7513; anytime, day or night, to report issues related to discrepancies with navigational aids, shoaling, or other hazards to navigation.
Butts committed, “I’ll deploy our teams as rapidly as possible,” Bliss told Historic City News. “As a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain, I certainly appreciate the concern and attention LCDR Butts has shown our community.”
