This morning at about 6:00 a.m., Historic City News was notified of a hit-and-run crash at the entrance of Pedro Menendez High School that sent one driver to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in critical condition.
A 42-year-old St Augustine man, Christopher Trubelhorn, was traveling west on SR-206 in his 2005 Nissan Frontier this morning, when a 2001 Ford F-150, driven by 22-year-old James Cannady Jr of Jacksonville, slammed into the rear end of his vehicle.
Trubelhorn lost control of his Nissan and the truck overturned; coming to rest in the ditch on the north side of the roadway. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle, which sustained about $12,000 in damage.
After the initial collision, Cannady ran over a stop sign at the entrance of Pedro Menendez High School, before fleeing the scene. Cannady’s vehicle was later located off of SR-206 — abandoned a few miles west of the crash scene.
Alcohol testing of Cannady is underway and charges are pending results of those tests. Cannady suffered only minor injuries in the crash; he caused about $4,000 in damages to his vehicle.
