The executive director of the St Johns County Cultural Council, Andy Witt, attended this morning, along with Historic City News and other media organizations, to learn more about the success of the annual shrimp festival in Fernandina Beach at a seminar sponsored by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association.
Sandy Price, a board member of the association and case study presenter, went to Palm Coast to discuss the evolution of the local event into the highly successful, annual signature “Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival”.
About 30 festival managers and event planners, parks and recreations professionals, government agency representatives, chamber and visitor bureau members, amusement attractions, arts organizations and others interested in special events planning, convened at the one-day seminar held at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Vice President of the Flagler County Tourist Development Council, Georgia Turner, told reporters that, in today’s economy, it is more important than ever, for community event planners to learn to motivate boards and committees and to attract the “largest draws”.
The association serves that mission; to strengthen, educate and unify the festivals and events industry throughout the Southeast.
Witt said he was interested to learn how to obtain additional sponsorship support and to bring home some creative ways to market local events.
