Beth Rogero Bowen will present a talk on her recent book, St. Augustine in the Roaring Twenties. The 1920s was a time of unprecedented growth in the nation’s oldest city. Fueled by a land boom that began in South Florida, St. Augustine was inundated with land speculators and new subdivisions. But all of this activity came crashing down when the Florida Land Boom collapsed in the late 1920s. Bowen, a St. Augustine native, is a descendant of Minorcan settlers who arrived in the 1770s. She is the author of St. Augustine in the Gilded Age and Bridge to a Dream, the story of building the Bridge of Lions and Davis Shores in 1925-27.
