FHP Captain Jerry Crews reported to Historic City News this morning that a Flagler County deputy sheriff struck a pedestrian in Palm Coast this morning while driving his patrol vehicle along Palm Coast Parkway.
At about 5:30 a.m. this morning, 26 year-old Flagler County deputy Brandon D. Fiveash of Palm Coast, was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of Palm Coast Parkway, about 75 feet east of Pine Cone Drive, when his rear-view mirror struck a pedestrian walking along the road.
The pedestrian, 72 year-old William O. Ernul II of Palm Coast, was also walking eastbound, partially in the inside travel lane, according to Crews’ report.
The left side-view mirror of the patrol vehicle struck the Pedestrian’s right arm, resulting in minor, non-incapacitating injuries. The patrol car, a 2009 Ford, sustained about $200 according to police estimates.
The deputy was traveling alone and was wearing his seatbelt, Crews reported. According to a statement from the FHP communications center, alcohol was not a contributing factor in the collision; either for the driver or the pedestrian.
