Historic City News in St Augustine received notice that Masci General Contractors Inc, of Port Orange, was hired by Florida Department of Transportation to complete the next phase of a King Street drainage improvement project scheduled to begin in March.
The approximately $1.5 million project is expected to be complete by early 2013.
The Florida Department of Transportation will hold a construction open house on Monday, February 27th from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the Alcazar Room at St Augustine City Hall located at 75 King Street.
A formal presentation is not scheduled, but Florida Department of Transportation and construction staff will be available to answer questions and address traffic impacts.
The project extends from Malaga Street, where a prior drainage reconstruction project finished in May 2011, to Markland Place near the post office.
Locations throughout St. Augustine often flood during heavy rains or high tides, in part due to the city’s elevation at sea level. The drainage reconstruction will help alleviate some of the flooding along this section of King Street.
Challenges during the project will include working several feet beneath the roadway. In addition, eastbound traffic is scheduled to be detoured away from this section of King Street during most of the project.
