First muster commemoration on Friday

Posted on 09/11/201209/13/2012 By Historic City News

The Florida National Guard announced to local Historic City News reporters that there would be a daylong celebration of the 447th anniversary of the first known muster of Citizen-Soldiers in the continental United States at Florida National Guard Headquarters, located at 82 Marine Street in St Augustine.

The St Francis Barracks Historical Museum, which is normally closed to the public, will remain open to visitors on Friday, September 14, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Then, at 3:00 p.m., a command retreat ceremony will take place on the parade field in front of the St Francis Barracks, featuring members of Florida Living History; who will demonstrate a traditional Spanish firing detail.

Re-enactors from Florida Living History will be present throughout the day to help tell the story of the Citizen-Soldier in Florida.
