John Birch Society staffer speaks to Tea Party

Keith Dunn, the Florida Field Coordinator for the John Birch Society, will be addressing the Saint Augustine Tea Party bi-monthly General Meeting on July 24, according to an announcement received by Historic City News from Tea Party treasurer, Lance Thate.

Dunn will discuss the core principles of the John Birch Society, and explain about the continued commitment to their mid-1960s “Support Your Local Police” campaign. The Society claims success in stopping Police Civilian Review Boards in the 1960s and 70s and in getting the federal Law Enforcement Assistance Administration abolished in 1982.

According to Dunn, today, more than ever, the John Birch Society needs grassroots activists to “continue working to keep local police under the supervision of local elected officials — free from state and federal control”.

John Birch Society members are motivated by the promise of what can be built in an atmosphere of freedom; they vehemently oppose what they see as any form of communism or other form of totalitarianism. An organization built on a moral foundation, their motto proclaims the long-range goal of “Less government, more responsibility, and, with God’s help, a better world”.

Members claim that if government were limited to only those powers specifically enumerated in the US Constitution, the result would be a working federal government that is 20-percent its size, and 20-percent its cost.

The meeting will convene at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 24 at the Village Inn, located at 900 North Ponce de Leon Boulevard in St Augustine. Attendance is free.
