Letter: Matanzas parking situation dangerous
Jim McCartney
St Augustine, FL
Dear Editor:
The government is costing St Johns County thousands of dollars because they prohibit parking on the beach at Matanzas Inlet.
What is wrong with this scene?
Labor Day beachgoers are filling the parking lots at Fort Matanzas and their cars and trucks are lined up and down the highway.
Mark my word, someone is going to be hurt or killed because of excessive, dangerous parking near the highway.
A couple of years back, the beach at Matanzas Inlet would be lined with 4-wheel drive vehicles and residents fishing for their Labor Day dinner.
I have always parked and fished at Matanzas Inlet. Now, the signs say “no parking” and, as you can see from the pictures, I took today, no cars and one person fishing.
Not even a bird watcher or tree hugger in sight.
You should be ashamed of yourself, Gordy Wilson, for taking control of driving at Matanzas Inlet. You had better take control of what is happening on the highway.
