Local living history group awarded 15k grant

Florida Living History spokesman Davis Walker announced to Historic City News reporters that a major grant of $15,000 has been awarded to the local organization by the Florida Humanities Council; the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

During the grant-award period of March 1, 2012 – August 31, 2013, financing will be made available for planning and implementation of already committed large-scale living history events and lectures.

Additionally, the grant funding will be used for production of a free, interactive, educational e-booklet on early colonial Florida for the state’s schoolchildren, ages 8 to 10; supporting the State of Florida’s social studies standards for grade 4.

“Florida Living History, Inc., would like to thank the Florida Humanities Council for entrusting us with this acknowledgement of our ongoing dedication to presenting and promoting Florida’s early colonial history,” Walker told Historic City News.

Florida Living History, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the support of living history activities, events, and portrayals related to the history of colonial Florida.
