Historic City News learned that more than 100 parents and educators gathered at The Academy at Julington Creek yesterday to hear Governor Rick Scott open the first 2.0 Digital Education Symposium hosted by Parents Advancing Global Education.
High school students from Nease and middle school students from Liberty Pines Academy asked the Governor about his support for digital education and he stressed to them that Digital Education is the clear future of education in Florida and across the country.
He encouraged the students and their parents to partner with educators and their school boards to require innovation and excellence from our education system.
“St Johns County is leading the state in education for more than 9 years,” said Kim Kendall, Co-Founder of Parents Advancing Global Education. “We are excited and committed to helping the Department of Education successfully launch digital education across Florida.”
Symposium attendees heard what truly “blended digital education” really means to students and families. They also learned how teachers can be trained, in advance, and where the money will come from to pay for this initiative without touching the education budget.
Experts from Discovery Education, Pearson, and Florida State College of Jacksonville joined educators from Mooresville, NC and St. Johns County’s first K-12 principal to open an all-green, all-digital elementary school.
They took real-time questions from attendees on how they are succeeding digitally in school districts around the county and how Florida residents can join the success stories.
“Parents and educators must play a key role in bringing the pilot program for digital education to St. Johns County and then across the state of Florida for all 2.66 million students,” added Kendall.
