In addition to a grand prize including a beautiful crystal trophy and recognition during several events throughout St Johns County during 2012, three talented contestants will receive cash prizes in the upcoming local amateur event, “St Johns Got Talent”.
St Johns Got Talent contest organizers, Alan and Terina Kelso, told Historic City News that this fundraising event would be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 8:30 a.m. at Destiny Church International — located in St Augustine at 1485 US-1 South, across from Target.
Online registration for contestants is open now at http://stjohnsgottalent.com
The competition is open to anyone who is not a professional entertainer, ages 12 and above, including soloist or groups. Three judges will listen and watch a day of entertaining singing, dancing, magic and instrumental music competition performed by the best talent St Johns County has to offer.
The Grand Prize winner receives a crystal trophy and $500 prize money. Second place wins $250 and third place wins $100. All three prizewinners will be invited to participate in the various events throughout the year, Kelso said.
The idea for the contest came to Alan Kelso, who is running as a Republican candidate for the District 5 seat on the St Johns County Board of County Commissioners, as a somewhat different approach to fundraising.
According to Kelso, he and his wife were discussing ways that they could raise money for the campaign — but at the same time do something for the community. “Innovation and creativity is crucial in life and in government”, Kelso said.
St Johns Got Talent is about encouraging individuals of all ages to step out of their comfort zone and do what is in their heart, according to Kelso. “Although the event is a fundraiser for my campaign, there will not be anything about politics during the event or on the church grounds — this is about recognizing the talent of St Johns County.”
