Manatee to Make Its Mark

Byway Program Administrator Sallie O’Hara announced to Historic City News that at noon tomorrow and Thursday, volunteer training sessions would be held at the St Johns County Parks and Recreation office in St Augustine in preparation for Friday’s “Kids Ocean Day” at Anastasia State Park.

Over 650 students from Ketterlinus, Crookshank and R.B. Hunt Elementary Schools have been registered to experience a day of learning about our environment from local educators this Friday, May 4, 2012.

“Weather forecasts are great, and this end-of-the-year field trip will make a statement that kids care,” O’Hara told reporters. “Thanks to assistance from Visit Florida and Community Foundation grants, our students will learn about nature topics related to ocean literacy and natural sciences free of charge.”

The program highlights many lessons and presentations that Friends of A1A has completed as part of its Nature Mosaic marketing and art education campaign. With special thanks to Golbal Images and Florida Aviation Career Training, Creative Mosaics’ sea manatee mosaic will be photographed from the air above Anastasia State Park Beach.

The volunteer training sessions will be conducted at the St Johns County Parks and Recreation office; located at 2175 Mizell Road in St Augustine. “There is still time to volunteer for the event,” O’Hara told Historic City News. “Contact me for more information at 904-540-0402.”
