St Augustine Fire Chief Mike Arnold reminds Historic City News readers that in order to keep July 4 safe and legal; you must comply with all ordinances in force regarding the possession and use of personal fireworks.
The simple rule of thumb is that if it leaves the ground or goes boom, it is illegal. Anyone found to be in possession of such fireworks will be subject to citation or arrest and will have the prohibited fireworks confiscated.
Violation of the ordinance is punishable by a fine up to $500, imprisonment up to 60 days or a combination of both.
The Fourth of July has become the city’s busiest holiday of the year, largely credited to the “Fireworks over the Matanzas”. The city is committed to providing a fun and safe environment for families and friends to gather to celebrate Independence Day.
“Simply put,” Chief Arnold said, “Have a great Independence Day with friends and family; but keep it safe and legal.”
