Mother-daughter hospitalized in crash

Historic City News reporters were on the scene of a lunchtime crash, one block north of SR-312 on US-1, that sent a mother and her daughter to Flagler Hospital with serious injuries; after the Jeep struck a pick-up truck, bounced off a center curb, and went flying into the air — landing on the driver’s side in a northbound traffic lane.

The driver of the late model, two-door, hardtop Jeep Wrangler, was driving north on US-1 with her young daughter in the passenger seat.

The mother, whose name has not yet been released, may have been distracted and was said to be operating at excessive speeds; according to witnesses on the scene.

A man and his wife were at the stop light on the east side of US-1, between Taco Bell and Wendy’s, in their bright-blue, Ford F-150 pick-up truck. When the light turned green, the couple proceeded into the intersection, headed west, into the Seabridge Shopping Plaza near Kentucky Fried Chicken.

For a yet unknown reason, the Jeep did not obey the red light and entered the intersection, as well. Almost midway through the northbound lane, the pickup truck crashed into the Jeep, sending it into a partial spin.

The drivers of the Ford truck were not injured. When instructed by law enforcement officials, they were able to drive the truck out of the roadway. The remains of the Jeep Wrangler were cleaned up and towed by Southern Wrecker and Recovery Service.

Alcohol is not suspected as a contributor at this time, however, the cause of the crash is still under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol.
