New county commissioners sworn-in

Historic City News will celebrate with friends, family members, and the public at large during a special day in county government; when three St Johns County commissioners will be sworn-in during a 9:00 a.m. ceremony, then participate in their first official meeting, and, at 2:00 p.m., return for a government ethics and transparency workshop.

More than 75% of St Johns County registered voters cast 115,093 ballots in the November 6 General Election. Incumbent Commissioner Cyndi Stevenson was re-elected to represent District One, Rachael L. Bennett was elected to represent District Five, and Bill McClure won the Primary Election in August and will represent District Three.

All ceremonies, meetings and workshop will be held in the County Auditorium at the St Johns County Administration building located at 500 San Sebastian View in St Augustine.

The workshop is designed to educate interested persons about some of the most common laws that affect elected officials and volunteers who serve on local government advisory committees and boards, and citizens who wish to take an active role in County government.

Ginger Delegal, General Counsel for the Florida Association of Counties, will make a presentation covering County Government Form and Function. Additionally, attorneys from the Office of the St. Johns County Attorney will review the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees, laws related to Quasi-Judicial Proceedings, Government in the Sunshine, and Public Records.
