Oakes offers 24-hour ballot drop off

In another measure aimed at making it as convenient as possible for St Johns County voters to cast their ballots in the November 6 General Election, Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes has added a secure “24-hour” drop-off box for absentee ballots.

On October 10, Historic City News announced that voters who have received an absentee ballot would have 11 convenient locations where they could be cast during office hours — no postage required.

“Voters like getting their ballot by mail so that they don’t feel rushed to make their choices,” Oakes told Historic City News. “The added convenience of a secure drop off point that’s available for use anytime, was an easy-to-accomplish enhancement to that service.”

Oakes is standing true to her pledge to make voting as easy and convenient as possible in St Johns County; taking advantage of new technologies whenever available, pushing voter education programs, offering extended hours of operation, and now, providing these free drop-off locations for ballots that would otherwise have to vote by mail.

“Absentee ballots cannot be turned in at the polls on Election Day,” Oakes told reporters. “But all eleven of these locations will offer a final Election Day collection of those absentee ballots as late as 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m., or they can be turned in at the Elections Office until 7:00 p.m.”
