Historic City News readers in St Augustine and St Johns County, and their families with kids 6 to 10 years-old, are invited to explore what sailing is all about during the first free introductory exploration party being held on Wednesday, June 6, at the Saint Augustine Yacht Club.
Enjoy delicious burgers, hot dogs and cold beverages available at the Yacht Club. Your pre-teens will enjoy an orientation of “on-the-water” fun and information about the sport of sailing.
“Watch and participate with our 5 sailing dinghies from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm,” event coordinator Wendy Thomson told Historic City News reporters. “Since space is limited, please call for reservations at (904) 687-4625 prior to the event.”
Come out to learn about the Yacht Club’s “Learn to Sail” youth sailing program, with Wednesday night sailing continuing through October (except the week of July 4th).
The St Augustine Yacht Club is located at 442 Ocean Vista Drive at Lighthouse Park.
Beginning June 11 through the week of August 6, the Yacht Club conducts a weekly camp program for kids 6-to-10 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. You can register for the summer camp online.
The wonders of maritime history will be combined with instruction in the art of sailing, safety, weather, wind direction, maritime communication, and ecology. Students learn what to do, and not to do, for safe sailing. More information about the Junior Sailing Program is available on their website.
