Ponte Vedra Beach attorney honored by Bar

Historic City News was notified by the Florida Bar that 82-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach attorney and published author Homer H. Humphries Jr., will be honored at a ceremony recognizing him, and four other attorney’s in the 7th Judicial Circuit, for 50 years of dedication to the practice of law.

Humphries was born on Talbot Avenue in Avondale and attended local schools, earned his bachelor degree at the University of Virginia and his LLB at The Stetson College of Law.

Early in his practice, he served as an assistant state attorney in Jacksonville under Edward Booth and William A. Hallowes. He served on the city council from 1967 to 1968; and then, he was elected to the first council under the new consolidated government. He served as the third President of that council. He did not run for a second term on the council but returned to the full-time private practice of law.

Others being recognized from our Circuit, which includes Flagler, Putnam, St Johns and Volusia counties, are Gaylord Ashlyn Wood Jr., Bunnell; Thomas William Staed, Daytona Beach; Frank Alexander Ford, Deland; and Ralph Paul Douglas, New Smyrna Beach.

During the annual convention, being held at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, 145 attorneys, members-in-good-standing of the Florida Bar, who have, or will, attain their 50th anniversary of admittance to the practice of law this year, will be honored.

The luncheon is sponsored by The Florida Bar’s Young Lawyers Division and will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 22. Florida’s Fifth District Court of Appeal Judge Robert J. Pleus Jr., a 50-year honoree, will be the featured speaker.
