Restoration benefit for Summer Haven River

The advisory board of the Friends of the Summer Haven River, Inc., will hold a restoration benefit this weekend, according to a report from Linda Ginn received by Historic City News this week.

A video titled “Help Save a Florida River” was produced by the organization and published on YouTube telling the story of what happened to the Summer Haven River. The 2.3 miles of public access along the river and two public boat launches have been rendered useless due to sand infiltration.

“We will meet at Hammock Wine and Cheese Shoppe and Gallery, located at 5368 North Oceanside Boulevard in the Hammock,” Ginn said. “Join us this Sunday, September 9, 2012, between 3:30 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.”

The non-profit group hopes to raise money to help restore the Summer Haven River; at one time a great public asset adjacent to the Helen Mellon Schmidt Public Park in southeast St Johns County.
