Next Wednesday, Historic City News has learned that the Board of Directors of the “Chase-Rescorla Scholarship Fund” will meet to select the students who will be awarded this year’s scholarship grants — a process that has led to over $30,000 in scholarships being awarded since March 31, 2007.
The scholarship fund was a response to the lives of Leo C. Chase and Rick Rescorla; both of whom served in Vietnam in the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), 7th Cavalry Regiment.
Directors will review the information provided by the schools and the candidates on February 29th; then conduct an interview with the candidate and make a selection based on the interview, funding needs and availability of scholarship money. Scholarships will be awarded at the annual dinner March 24th.
This year’s members of the Chase – Rescorla Scholarship Fund Board of Directors and Officers include:
Michael Pullium President
Greg White Vice President
Donna Pullium Treasurer
Tom Crawford Secretary
William Jefferson
Ann Lawton
Septimus Connor
Michael Rothfeld
Rick Look
Dan Hill
David B. Shoar
Although contributions to the fund have varied somewhat each year, during the 2011 Dinner, the Board was able to award scholarships that ranged from $500 to $1,000 to eleven deserving local high school students. Scholarships granted from the fund may only be used to pay a student’s college or trade-school tuition and books.
The keynote speaker this year will be Brigadier General Holsey Moorman, US ARMY.
Tickets for the annual dinner are $40 each and can be purchased by calling Ann Lawton at (904) 669-1719 or (904) 797-0847.
