Slow Food First Coast reported to Historic City News that this Sunday, nearly 20 different farms, vineyards and produce markets in St Johns, Putnam, Flagler, Duval, Nassau, Baker and Bradford counties will participated in a free Tour de Farm.
Some restaurants in Northeast Florida began adding local food to their menus in 2010, as customers found that the food tasted better. Slow Food First Coast supports good, clean and fair food.
The group is hosting Sunday’s tour to give area foodies the opportunity to see local farms that provide fresh produce to those local restaurants.
The free event will be held at the participating farms, some with fresh, local goods for sale, from noon to 5:00 p.m. April 22. There are suggested stops along the way that highlight area restaurants, more produce markets and the Starke Strawberry Festival.
Some of the farms featured on the tour also have chef partners, including Sam Efron from Taverna who is partnered with Down to Earth Farm. Chef Scotty Schwartz of 29 South is partnered with Conner’s Amazing Acres. Genie Kepner of The Floridian and Chef David Scalise of the Sawgrass Marriott are partnered with KYV Farms.
