Special fertilizer grows campaign signs

Standing in stark contrast to the rest of the parking lot this morning, Historic City News found the voter entrance to St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes’ office was “sign-free”, except for a warning that no firearms, weapons, knives, or any other sharp object is allowed in a polling location.

“That’s some special fertilizer she’s got that grows all those campaign signs,” one Elkton voter told news editor Michael Gold as he was on his way in to cast his ballot during the third day of early voting.

Before 8:00 a.m., Historic City News found two candidates and one campaign volunteer waving signs at vehicles coming into town from Anastasia Island across the Bridge of Lions.

A volunteer from Beverly Slough’s campaign and St Augustine City Commission candidate Bruce Maguire were on the west-end median; smiling and waving as cars honked, and acknowledging “good luck” calls from motorists as they passed by on their way to work.

Further up, on the bridge sidewalk, St Augustine City Commissioner Errol D. Jones was out with his bright orange “Team Jones” shirt and campaign sign; as he has over the past ten years.

Early voting runs through Saturday, August 11, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. every day.

All voters in St Johns County may vote at any of these six early voting locations.
