The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began work this week on a 2.3-mile long segment of multi-use trail along State Road 207 in western St. Johns County.
The new trail will extend from Armstrong Road, where another trail that is currently under construction will end, to just south of Old State Road 207 in Spuds.
The FDOT hired the project team of Superior Construction Company Southeast and Ayers Associates to design and construct the 12-foot wide asphalt trail with two-foot wide grass shoulders. Project completion is anticipated in August 2012 at a cost of $544,000.
Construction on the multi-use trail will primarily take place through a wooded area but will be closer to residences near the end of the trail just south of Old State Road 207. Access to driveways will be maintained during construction. Caution is advised near all construction areas.
Once this portion of trail has been constructed, there will be a continuously paved multi-use trail from Spuds to Interstate 95, a distance of eight and a half miles.
