Flagler College Gargoyle adviser Brian Thompson reported to Historic City News correspondents in St Augustine that the online student newspaper has won four awards in the 2012 Florida College Press Association “Best under the Sun” contest.
The Gargoyle took first place and third place in opinion writing with pieces by Eliza Jordan and Amber James. Mari Pothier took second place in sports story and Alex Bonus took third place in feature writing.
“I’m very proud of how our students measure up against journalists from schools like the University of Florida and the University of Miami,” Thompson told Historic City News. “These awards really do say something about the quality of the communication program here at Flagler, and how we continue to produce top-notch journalism.”
The Florida College Press Association has 13 member newspapers that range from small private colleges to larger public universities, including the University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, Stetson University, Eckerd College and Florida A&M University.
